When water rises the fish eat ants and when the same water falls the ants eat the fish, this saying is loaded with many lessons. It teaches us that every one of us gets our times and chance. We each have our own share of misfortune.
It may not be in the same degree or for the same duration but we all have our low moments. The wise sometimes make foolish mistakes and the most experience or skilful sometimes don’t always get the job done.
The advice here is that we need each other because we never know when the tides of life will rise and turn against us. On the positive side, it tells us that everyone will have good luck or success at some point in their lives.
Like the English idiom goes, “every dog has its day”. When the tide is high, the ant is helpless and hapless while the fish is inspired and impelled. That also means the same thing that discourages you may encourage someone somewhere.
It also warns us about the dangers of getting too comfortable in our success. Success is a journey and not a destination. Those who treat it as a destination set themselves up for a fall. Learn to stay afloat. Be buoyed up!
