7 BONDING ACTIVITIES TO BRING YOUR FAMILY TOGETHER

Having a good time with your family will always be on the upper echelon of fun for me—no inhibitions, no pretence—just some good old-fashioned fun. The world is moving and so are we. This busy nature of the world has made some people go for months or even years without spending quality time with their loved ones. But it’s good to pause and think about how to right this wrong because, at the end of the day, family is all we got. You want to make fun memories with your family? Here are 10 bonding activities you can enjoy with your family to strengthen your family ties.

1. Picnic

Pack a basket full of tasty treats, grab a blanket or mat, and head to your favourite picnic spot. Whether it’s a local park, beach, or even your backyard, there’s something magical about sharing a meal in the great outdoors. Don’t forget to bring along some fun games.

2. Early Morning Bonfire

For my rural peeps! This was one activity I looked forward to every morning during harmattan as a kid living in the village with my grandma. It was done to keep warm, but it had some perks: beautiful folktales, heating up, and eating leftovers. It is like a ritual to get you ready for the day because it is done in the early hours of the morning when it is still a bit dark. The memories from those mornings are still very fresh and precious in my heart. I wouldn’t trade those quality times for anything in the world.

3. Family Game Night

Dust off those board games, shuffle those cards, and get ready for a night of friendly competition! Whether you’re into classic favourites like Monopoly, Scrabble, Ludo (I’m a pro at this), Snakes and Ladders, Jenga or Chess, or prefer newer additions like Codenames and Exploding Kittens, there’s a game for every family to enjoy.

4. Fun Run

Lace up those running shoes, grab your water bottles, and hit the road for some fun time with your family while keeping fit. Of course, you know there will be some teasing after the race for people who couldn’t keep up the pace.

5. Spa Day

Treat yourselves to a day of pampering and relaxation with a DIY spa day at home. Take turns giving each other pedicures, manicures, facials and massages. It’s the perfect opportunity to unwind, bond, and indulge in some much-needed self-care. You don’t have to be a pro. The more mess you make, the more fun you’ll have.

6. Family Fitness Fiesta

Get those endorphins pumping with a family fitness fiesta that’s equal parts fun and sweat-inducing! Whether you’re going for a bike ride, playing a game of backyard football, or busting a move with a family dance party, staying active together is a great way to bond and boost your overall well-being.

7. Memory Lane Movie Marathon

Grab some popcorn, dim the lights, and warm up on the couch for a movie marathon that celebrates your family’s favourite films and memories. Whether you’re revisiting beloved classics from your childhood or discovering new favourites together, there’s nothing quite like the magic of movie night to bring your family closer together. It’s also a great way to learn as a family. This was how I got to know about the Holocaust while watching “Escape from Sobibor” with my family.

Every opportunity you get to spend time with your family is a blessing you should cherish because one minute you are young and agile and the next minute all that youthfulness is gone. Now, regrets are not what we want to have when we are old and grey so, you’d better keep bonding!
