About Abiola Bawuah

Mrs. Abiola Bawuah is a trailblazing business executive and accomplished banker, celebrated as the first-ever female Chief Executive Officer of UBA Africa. In this capacity, she provided strategic leadership and oversight for the Bank’s operations across nine subsidiaries in West Africa, including Benin, Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Guinea, Liberia, Mali, Senegal, and Sierra Leone.

Before her appointment as CEO, Mrs. Bawuah served as Regional CEO, West Africa, where she was instrumental in driving UBA’s growth and consolidating its presence across the region. She joined UBA Ghana in 2013 as Deputy Managing Director, following an impactful tenure at Zenith Bank Ghana, where she rose through the ranks from General Manager, Marketing and Group Head of Retail Banking to Executive Director.

Her career journey also includes key leadership roles at Standard Chartered Bank as Head of Sales, CAL Bank as Relationship Manager, Strategic African Securities as an Authorized Dealing Broker, and Bentsi-Enchi and Letsa (now Bentsi-Enchil, Letsa & Ankomah) as an Investment Officer.

Mrs. Bawuah holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Actuarial Science from the University of Lagos, an LLB from the University of London, a Diploma in Marketing from Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), and an Executive MBA (Finance) from the University of Ghana. She has also completed several prestigious executive programs at globally renowned institutions, including Harvard Business School, Columbia University, New York University, INSEAD, and Institut Villa Pierrefeu, Switzerland.
