Group Deputy Managing Director
Muyiwa Akinyemi is the Deputy Managing Director of United Bank for Africa (UBA), where he provides strategic leadership for the Bank’s operations across Southern Nigeria and oversees its Corporate Banking business. With a distinguished career spanning nearly three decades in the financial services industry, Muyiwa has been instrumental in driving UBA’s growth and strengthening its position as a leading pan-African financial institution.
Since joining UBA in 2005, Muyiwa has held several key leadership roles. He successfully led the Bank’s Energy Banking business and served as General Manager, Corporate and Commercial Banking. Between 2013 and 2015, he headed the Wholesale Banking Division, where he was responsible for managing UBA’s business activities across multiple international markets. Earlier in his career with the Group, he also served as Chief Executive Officer/Managing Director of UBA Kenya from 2010 to 2011, providing visionary leadership that reinforced the Bank’s presence in East Africa.
Before joining UBA, Muyiwa built a strong foundation in banking through various leadership roles at Standard Trust Bank, where he headed the Investment Banking, Energy & Telecoms, and Structured Finance units. His career began at Diamond Bank, where he served between 1994 and 1998.
A Chartered Accountant, Muyiwa holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife. He is a member of several prestigious professional bodies, including the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN), and the Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers (CIS).
With a deep understanding of corporate finance, investment banking, and strategic management, Muyiwa continues to play a pivotal role in advancing UBA’s vision of delivering excellence in banking across Africa and beyond.
