We are proud to announce that United Bank for Africa (UBA) has been named Nigeria’s strongest brand in the latest Brand Finance Nigeria 2025 rankings.
Moving from ninth position in 2024 to first place in 2025, UBA achieved a remarkable Brand Strength Index (BSI) score of 92.4 out of 100, earning the prestigious AAA+ rating. This milestone is not only a reflection of our sustained growth, but also the result of deliberate investments in digital transformation, customer-centric innovation, and service excellence across all our markets.
The report highlights our strong performance in key brand metrics: familiarity, preference, and consideration. In addition to leading the pack in Nigeria, we are proud to have been recognised globally, ranking as the 13th strongest banking brand in the world among the top 500 banks.
Our brand strength is also backed by solid financials. We are now Nigeria’s sixth most valuable brand, with a brand valuation of ₦341 billion (approximately $213 million), showcasing our market leadership and growing impact.
Powered by Purpose and Performance
Today, UBA serves over 45 million customers, with a footprint spanning 738 branches and 507 touchpoints across 20 African countries, along with international presence in the UK, USA, France, and the UAE. Our commitment to connecting Africa to the world—and the world to Africa, is stronger than ever.
The leap from ninth to first in just one year can be traced to our “Customer First” (C1st) philosophy, led by our Group Managing Director/CEO, Oliver Alawuba, and powered by bold innovations in digital banking.
In 2024 alone, we achieved significant financial milestones:
- ₦767 billion in profit after tax (a 26.1% increase from 2023)
- ₦3.167 trillion in gross earnings
- ₦103 billion reinvested into infrastructure, including ₦9.1 billion in new computer hardware
These investments are fueling our growth in digital banking, which saw a 107.8% year-on-year increase in income.
Innovation That Connects and Converts
Our Group Head of Marketing and Corporate Communications, Alero Ladipo, captured it best: “This growth is no accident, it’s the result of strategic investment and an unwavering focus on customer satisfaction.”
The data speaks for itself:
- Our customer base grew from 35 million to 45 million between 2023 and 2024
- 32.6 million customers now use our digital channels, up from 30.2 million
- Our AI-powered chatbot, Leo, reached 5.8 million users, gaining one million new users in a year
- Our mobile app subscribers grew from 7 million to 8 million
These figures represent more than numbers—they reflect trust, loyalty, and the growing confidence our customers place in UBA as Africa’s Global Bank.
Looking Ahead
As we continue to invest in people, platforms, and partnerships, our focus remains clear: to redefine banking across Africa and beyond, delivering value that is bold, inclusive, and sustainable.
We thank our customers, stakeholders, and partners for being part of this journey. Together, we are building a brand that is strong, resilient, and ready for the future.
